Bend Celebrates the Launch of Sustainable Workforce Housing Initiative, Rooted at Poplar

Rooted at Poplar provided affordable homeownership for essential workers in a region grappling with escalating housing costs. The Rooted at Poplar initiative is a beacon of hope for many essential workers struggling to find affordable homeownership options in Bend’s challenging housing market. The project has carefully selected its homeowners, prioritizing those employed by local partners and first-generation homebuyers. This approach underscores the project’s commitment to housing those who are most in need and play a pivotal role in the local economy.

The result of this diligent selection process is the creation of seven units of affordable 3-bedroom, 2-bath homes on the west side of Bend. The average mortgage payment for these homes stands at $1,650, a stark contrast to the region’s average rent for similar homes, which is 40% higher.
